Missing Time
PRANA Missing Time
Three craft patrol a field. Below them, a herd. Each craft picks a subject,
travels to it, opens a beam, and lifts. Every part of that is musical — the
distance travelled becomes the rhythm, the height of the lift becomes the
melodic run, the weight of the subject decides the register.
Nothing here is a pattern you programmed. The sequence is the consequence of
what the craft are doing, and the craft never do the same thing twice.
The result is polyrhythmic, harmonically coherent, and endlessly variable —
from sparse ambient drift to a dense swarm, moved almost entirely by one macro.
ONE KNOB CHANGES EVERYTHING
FIELD takes you from half a note per bar to twelve. Travel speed, rest time,
run density, note length and chord rate all move together. Down low it is an
ambient bed. Up high it is a swarm. It is the identity of the patch.
IT FOLLOWS YOUR SONG
The device reads Live's current scale and stays in key. The harmony moves
through a chord field on its own, so what it plays fits what you are writing.
A DIFFERENT CREW EVERY TIME
Every seed produces a distinct ensemble — different speeds, appetites and
altitudes. The same seed always returns the same crew, and it saves with your
set. Reroll until one feels right, then write the number down.
THREE VOICES, THREE SOUNDS
Switch to zoned mode and each craft is confined to its own register, so an
Instrument Rack can route the three to three different instruments. A low pad,
a mid pluck, a high bell — suddenly you are hearing three musicians in
conversation. Two rack presets are included to show the range.
FOUR BEHAVIOURS
Drift, Blackout, Unstable and Temporal. Steady counterpoint, sudden silences
and re-entries, accumulating chaos, and time that stretches against the grid.
IT MODULATES THE REST OF YOUR RACK
The TRANSMIT window exposes eight control signals drawn from the craft's own
behaviour — beam envelopes, lift ramps, chord steps, fleet activity. Map any
of them to any parameter in Live. The modulation adds on top of wherever you
set the knob, so your sound stays yours.
AND IT SHOWS YOU EVERYTHING
A live display on the device face, plus a full cockpit window: a top-down
ventral array of the field, the harmonic field lit in real time, a register
map, and per-craft telemetry. You can watch why it sounds the way it does.
